Texts from your mate as to what pub you are at or instant sports results on your handset — these things wouldn’t exist without the integrated circuit, a tiny electrical circuit that was invented in the ruins of post-war Germany and today sits in every mobile phone, PC and laptop in the world. No, we don’t know how it works, either. But we’re glad it is here.
